And with an added bit of fundraising, you’ll have that extra incentive to make your new habit stick. How to get started: 1. Choose your happy habit – if you’re stuck for ideas, take a look below for suggestions 2. Create your JustGiving fundraising page here 3.Tell your friends and ask them to keep you motivated with a donation. Happy habit suggestions for transforming the mind, body and soul: THE MIND CHALLENGE- Become a bookworm Bad habit: Ditch the hours of TV time. Happy habit: Start reading again. And to keep you going, set up a book club. Best way to give: Charge a small donation fee for each book club. Your mantra: Feed your brain THE BODY CHALLENGE- Cook up a storm Bad habit: Those ready-made meals may taste great but boy are they unhealthy. Happy habit: Get into the healthy- eating habit with a month of home cooking. Best way to give: Cook for a lucky few friends and ask them to donate in return. Your mantra: You are what you eat THE SOUL CHALLENGE Do something different Bad habit: There's nothing worse for your soul than getting stuck in a rut. Happy habit: Step outside your comfort zone - try something new every day for a month. Best way to give: Get your friends to dare you and make a donation for the privilege. Your mantra: Do one thing a day that scares you Make your page Peter Watson Joins 20 Mile Walk 5/20/2013 Peter Watson jumped at the chance to join Malcolm on a 20 mile walk to Apps Court Farm, the venue for this year’s Barrio Fiesta sa London. Why? We emailed Peter to find out. From Peter’s first visit to the Philippines in July 2011. What inspired you to fundraise for children’s education in the Philippines? Melba, my fiancee, is from Iligan City in Mindanao. My first trip there was in July 2011, and then my second trip was in March 2012. Being in the Philippines was the best experience of my life; on both trips I was really touched by the hospitality shown towards me. But while I was there, I noticed lots of young children of many different age ranges asking me for money, which I gladly gave. These children were homeless; and just wanted food and a start in life. This experience made me very upset and sad- for me to walk 20 miles is nothing compared to what these young children have to deal with on a daily basis. If by walking 20 miles I can help the Philippines in a small way, through raising money, then so be it. 2. How did you hear of Sambat Trust? From Malcolm Conlan, who I am walking with on June 5th. 3. Is this your first 20 mile walk? Yes. I’ll be fine, don’t worry. Peter spends time with his fiancee, Melba, and her family in Iligan City, Northern Mindanao. 4. How's your training going? My training is going well. I cycle a lot,do weight training and eat a balanced diet...well, most of the time (haha). 5. Any advice for our readers who are thinking to start their own JustGiving fundraising event for Sambat Trust? If it’s your passion, and you love helping people, then go for it. You can support Peter. Malcolm Conlan is Raising Funds for Sambat Trust by Walking 20 Miles to Apps Court Farm, the Venue for Barrio Fiesta sa London 2013. 5/14/2013 The furthest Malcolm Conlan, a first aid trainer and assessor from London, has ever walked is 10 miles-he was limping for the next week! On the 5th June Malcolm plans to double that effort and walk 20 miles for Sambat Trust:from his home in Bromley,Kent to Apps Court Farm in London, the venue for Barrio Fiesta sa London 2013. We caught up with Malcolm to see how it’s all going. Malcolm is an active member of the UK’s Filipino community. The Philippine team float at The Lord Mayor‘s Show 2011. 1. What inspired you to fundraise for children's education in the Philippines? I first went to the Philippines when I was 18 and fell in love with the country and the people. I’m always struck by how friendly, polite and welcoming everyone is. After nearly 30 visits to the country,I feel as a British man married to a Filipina, it is my absolute duty to help. I believe that all children should have the same educational opportunities, regardless of what part of the world they happen to be born in. With his wife, Susan, a Filipina from Pangasinan, and their two lovely children. 2. How did you hear of Sambat Trust? I heard about Sambat Trust through Facebook and the great work and dedication of the charity founder, Anthony Mariano. Social media is a very powerful tool in helping to promote events and charities. I’m always happy to feature Sambat Trust on my website. Malcolm also runs Fil-Event.com, a site providing information about Filipino events around the world. 3. Is this your first 20 mile walk? Yes this is the first time I’ve ever walked 20 miles in my life. Two years ago, I decided to walk 10 miles to help raise money for the victims of Typhoon Sendong, which struck the Philippines so badly. By the time I finished the walk, I was limping and couldn't walk for a week! 4. How's your training going? Watching The Filipino Channel(TFC)and eating chocolate- so not too well I'm afraid(haha). Malcolm provides first aid cover at Barrio Fiesta sa London, the largest Pinoy festival in Europe. 5. Any advice for our readers who are thinking to start their own JustGiving fundraising event for Sambat Trust? It’s so easy to do. And Sambat Trust has been very supportive. I looked up the charity on the JustGiving website and set up a page, all started from there really. Started off as a bit of a crazy idea, however a friend of mine on Facebook,Peter Watson, has decided to walk with me and also support the charity. You can donate to Malcolm’s JustGiving page here. Honolulu Marathon 2012: Running for Children's Books 11/18/2012 Would you like to show your support? You can sponsor Anthony here: www.justgiving.com/Anthony-Mariano Sambat Trust's Second Birthday Campaign for Ambulong Primary School. 9/18/2012 Did you know we are celebrating our 2nd birthday this September? Sambat Trust became a registered charity in Sept. 2010. Thanks to you, over 2,700 children now have access to books and a functional school library in the Philippines. To celebrate our 2nd birthday this September,we are raising funds to establish a school library at Ambulong Primary School, Batangas; a school with 970 children. Our fundraising target is £5,000- so we can deliver 2,000 children's books to the school. If you break this down, it costs just £5.16 to give each child at the school access to books and a functional school library. Celebrate Sambat Trust's 2nd birthday! Go to www.justgiving.com/ambulongschool and donate just £5.00 to give a child at Ambulong Primary School access to books and a library
